The Party Invitation

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: L.O.L. Invitation
I designed the party invitation taking inspiration from L.O.L. Surprise Doll’s cute and colorful fashion. Sweet, fun, and girly was the goal, so the striped pink background and the use of mint green to complement it, was a no-brainer. I also edited and customized the header with Zoë’s name to make it resemble the L.O.L. logo. Zoë’s short three-letter name was a bonus, as it fused perfectly into the original logo!

To complete the design, I added fancy tot Bon Bon from the Cosplay Club of L.O.L. Series 2. With her lilac glasses and bright sense of style mirroring Zoë’s own looks and personality, she was just the perfect fit!

The L.O.L. Party Decor

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: DIY Party DecorSince we had the party at my parents’ tiny garage, I set up a small dessert table and made it the focal point of the celebration.

The backdrop features a DIY balloon garland using pink, blue, and white balloons in various sizes. The intention was to make it appear like a flowing river of L.O.L. Surprise balls, enough to make any girl scream with delight!

At the center of the wall, I designed a round “Zoë is Seven!” banner (printed on sintra board) to look like a faux L.O.L. Surprise ball. Flowing under it, I added pink chiffon, to give the entire look a soft and flowy texture.

To dress the plain white dessert table, I tied a colorful tassel garland around the front of the table. It gave it just enough glam and pizzazz. And the gold foil tassels? It definitely added that needed shimmer and shine, perfect for this fashion-forward Birthday bash!

The L.O.L. Cake

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: L.O.L. Cake
For the dessert table’s centerpiece, we ordered this customized 8″ L.O.L. cake from Canvas Cake Studio. We used the same cake for Zoë’s candle-blowing party at school the day before our house party, so we opted for a non-edible cake to make sure it would last. The dummy fondant cake features a zipper detail like those found on L.O.L.’s packaging, with the “Zoë is Seven” logo front and center. For the main cake toppers, we chose three L.O.L. dolls made of fondant: Bon Bon, Posh, and Sis Swing.

The L.O.L. Cupcakes

For our store-bought strawberry cupcakes, we simply added candy sprinkles, then placed L.O.L. Surprise Doll toppers printed on  card stock. Cute and simple!

Mini L.O.L. Cookies

These mini L.O.L. cookies feature ready-made royal icing toppers from Caketopps. The toppers are perfect to top on cupcakes, but just like Zoë’s Moana Birthday party, I added them to my homemade mini sugar cookies, for a quick and fun treat!

L.O.L. Sugar Cookie Treats

Maggie makes the prettiest and yummiest cookies! I just added the customized cookie bag tags and they were perfect little treats for Zoë’s friends!

The Costume

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: Bon Bon Costume
Our little seven-year-old doll! To go with the running theme, we chose L.O.L. Surprise Doll Bon Bon as inspiration for her costume. I didn’t have time to copy and customize the entire outfit, but I made use of stuff we already had at home to DIY the look.

I started off by adding yellow bows to a purple tutu that Zoë had lying around at home, then paired it with a white top. I then dyed her tights pink and blue using food coloring, then bought her yellow ballet flats for the added pop of color. Zoë’s purple glasses completed the look, effortlessly. She looked fun, colorful, and was definitely dressed to impress!

DIY L.O.L. Piñata

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: DIY L.O.L. Piñata
This party’s major DIY was this L.O.L. Surprise Bon Bon piñata, all made from scratch, because I just couldn’t resist! Using old cardboard boxes and lots of colorful crepe paper, this pull-string piñata was a huge hit! Doesn’t it look fab, too?!? (I’ll post a tutorial on how to make this soon!)

Bounce Fun

Zoë's L.O.L. Surprise Birthday Party: Bounce Fun
Since the party was an intimate celebration with just a few family and  friends, we opted not to have the typical party games, and set up a little bouncy castle instead. We wanted something different, and the kids sure had a lot of fun bouncing around! The Birthday Girl sure was pleased!

Zoë’s L.O.L. Surprise Party, though small and pretty simple for a seventh Birthday party, was fun, colorful, and dolled up with pretty party decor. It was everything Zoë wished for, and everything this DIY-loving momma wanted to achieve–the sweetest and most gorgeous surprise for our Lil Outrageous Little!

Zoë’s Moana Birthday Party https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2017/zoes-moana-birthday-party/ https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2017/zoes-moana-birthday-party/#comments Mon, 04 Sep 2017 02:06:36 +0000 http://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/?p=1071 Make way! Make way! Zoë turned 6!

When it came to pick a theme for her Birthday party this year, Zoë didn’t have to think twice about choosing a Moana inspired celebration. She has been obsessed with the movie ever since we watched it in the cinema, so it was a no-brainer choice, really.

With less than two weeks to plan the house party and work on all the DIYs, it was a mad rush to get everything done, but I think we pulled it off. Come check out what the ocean breeze swept into our little party!

Dessert Buffet

The main focal point of the party was the mini dessert buffet that we set up in my parents’ garage. As you can tell, we take sugar and party decor pretty seriously!

Moana Party Ideas Dessert BuffetTo get in on the tropical beach festivity, we started off by adorning the wall with DIY leaves and paper flowers for the backdrop. The dessert table, decorated with colorful flowers, was divided into two: the ocean on the left, and the beach on the right.

Moana Party Food Ideas
For the ocean on the left, I layered a sheet of blue chiffon cloth on the table to give the illusion of waves in the water. In this section I placed the oyster pearl cookies, sailboat macapuno tarts, swirl lollies, and some cupcakes.

Moana Party Food Ideas: Oysters
These oyster pearl cookies were pretty easy to make. Using store-bought butter cookies for the shells, I piped some aqua-colored frosting as its filling, then placed 10mm gold dragée pearls to finish it off.

Moana Party Food Ideas: Sailboat Tarts, Lolly SwirlsThese sailboat tarts were another easy and inexpensive treat. Using store-bought macapuno tarts as the boat, I just printed out the sail and attached them using BBQ sticks. They were all ready to set sail in no time!

Moana Party Ideas: Dessert Buffet
For the beach setting, I laid out mesh netting for the base. This part was accentuated with the mini palm tree that we made using toilet paper rolls, recycled brown paper, twine, and green card stock for the leaves.

Moana Party Ideas: Kakamora CoconutsMoana Party Ideas: Dessert BuffetAt the foot of the palm tree, three kakamora coconuts stood guard, protecting the sweet goodies of  BBQ fruit jellies and marshmallow cupcakes. Guests could enjoy the treats on the bamboo serving boats provided.

Moana Fondant Birthday CakeThe centerpiece of the dessert buffet featured the 8″ fully-edible Moana cake we got customized from Hello! Sugar. The cake was a delectably moist chocolate cake, filled with marshmallow icing, and decorated with fondant details. Our favorite from the cake? The adorable Moana, Pua and Hei Hei fondant toppers, of course!

The Costume

What’s a themed Birthday party without a costume, right?

Moana Couture Costume by Joseph Aloysius MontelibanoZoe’s outfit was very special, as it was tailored just for her by designer Joseph Aloysius Montelibano. This one-of-a-kind Moana-inspired couture was made ingeniously, using polypropylene rope and Indian silk! Zoë loved it so much, she wanted to wear it as soon as she woke up the morning of her party!

The Crafts

Instead of the usual party games, we set up some craft activities for the kids to enjoy.

Moana Party Crafts: DIY Jewelry
Lots of colorful beads at the DIY jewelry table. The kids got to design and make their own bracelets and necklaces.

Moana Party Crafts: Paint a Clay PlateAt this table, the kids got a little messy and painted their own clay plates and pendants.

Moana Party Crafts: Paint a Clay PlateWe also had a coloring table, as well as a popsicle sticks art table, both of which allowed the kids to be creative and explore the possibilities of their imagination.

The craft activities were a big hit! The kids arrived at the party and dove right into the crafts, keeping themselves busy for the first hour and a half.

The Party Bentos

After the kids were done making their crafts, they were treated to special Moana-themed bentos for their afternoon snack.

Moana Party Ideas: Moana BentoWe served some sugar cookies, chicken lollipop, spaghetti, and a special edible sailboat design on top.

Moana Party Ideas: Moana BentoThe sugar cookies featured these adorable ready-made royal icing toppers from Caketopps. I didn’t have to worry about cookie decorating. All I had to do was place the toppers on top of homemade sugar cookies, and they were all ready to match the theme! Saved me lots of time in the kitchen!

These Moana-themed bentos were the perfect treats to the little wayfinders who joined Zoë’s voyage!

The Poké Bar

Aside from the home cooked food my mom and mother-in-law prepared, Zoë’s Ninong Brian also set up a mini Poké Bar for the adult guests to enjoy.

Moana Party Ideas: Poké Bar Moana Party Ideas: Poké BarGuests could customize their flavorful island experience by filling up their bowls with sushi rice, tuna, salmon; their choice toppings: mango, cucumber, scallions, carrots, pickled ginger, cabbage, nori, panko, bonito flakes, chicharon; and dressing of choice: wasabi aioli or sriracha aioli. Every delightful DIY bowl was perfectly complemented by the carefully curated South Pacific playlist in the background, transporting everyone to a relaxing afternoon of no worries under the palm trees, by the sea.

The Piñata

As a final activity, we brought out the Pua pig piñata!

Moana Party Ideas: Pua Piñata Moana Party Ideas: Pua Piñata
The kids had fun taking turns hitting the piñata, and everyone made a mad dash towards the treats as soon as they came showering down!

Moana Party Ideas: Pua PiñataMoana Party Ideas: Pua PiñataDIY house parties are a lot of work, but Zoë’s 6th Birthday Party was definitely a labor of love. We didn’t hire any caterers or any major suppliers, but everyone in the family pitched in to help. All the planning, the preparations, and rushing about to get everything done, they were all worth it. Anything to make our six-year-old happy, of course.

It was an afternoon filled with crafts, creativity, yummy treats, fun and laughter. Zoë had such an amazing time, she couldn’t be any more grateful for all the love!

Well, what can we say, except “You’re Welcome” Zoë!
