The 100 Day Project: All Done https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2017/the-100-day-project-all-done/ https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2017/the-100-day-project-all-done/#comments Wed, 15 Mar 2017 03:20:39 +0000 http://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/?p=927 Last year, I embarked on a 100 Day Project and challenged myself to make and create art every day. With my theme #100DaysOfArtByAnnings, I worked on nurturing my creativity using different mediums and styles. My first 50 days went by like a breeze, and I reached The Half-Way Mark July of 2016. The last half of the challenge took longer to finish than I had planned, missing some weeks, but finally, all done!

Here are 50-100 of my #100DaysOfArtByAnnings.

For days 51-53, I worked on some hand lettering and pointed pen calligraphy.

Day 54 was a special treat for my five-year-old with this Rilakkuma food art for lunch.

Most days, I just experimented with more brush lettering, pointed pen calligraphy, watercolors and food art.

In preparation for my daughter’s 5th Birthday party, we worked on a simple mother-daughter collaboration. I picked out one of Zoe’s selfie doodles, digitized it and used it as art for her thank-you tags. I loved how it turned out, we even used the design on her cake! It was also a treat watching her face light up upon seeing her own drawing turned into a finished artwork.

I spent days working with a myriad of colors. Bright food art, splashes of watercolor, and lots of rainbow lettering, each piece bringing sunshine to long and drab days.

Day 92 was a special DIY project that I worked on for Zoë’s Halloween costume. She insisted on being a cupcake, so I worked on building and making everything from scratch. It was such a hit! My dessert-loving five-year-old gave it her seal of approval, too!

The whole challenge definitely pushed me to practice my hand lettering. After weeks of writing, I’ve realized that brush lettering is really more my style. Each stroke and flick of the brush, I’ve learned to delight in.

I concluded my last two days of #100DaysOfArtByAnnings with these brush lettered pieces, reminding myself to trust my own capabilities and to push myself to leap and take chances.

Getting into the habit of making art on the daily has made me appreciate the beauty of creativity more. Although I admit I missed creating on some days, it was a pressure I didn’t want to hinder me from enjoying the whole process. The 100 Day Project gave me a way to release emotions, express ideas and reduce stress. Not only was it an excuse to refine my skills, it paved a way for me to find my style.

Would you like to liven up your conversations with fun everyday expressions? Well, I have just the thing for you!

Introducing Everyday Letters, a sticker pack I designed for use on iMessage.

Because for me, normal text is just not enough, I decided to create my own iMessage stickers, using 20 brush-lettered and hand-drawn phrases. Each piece was written using my trusty Kuretake Zig Letter Pen Cocoiro with a brush tip, before digitizing it and getting it ready for the iOS platform.

Featuring expressions like hello, sweet!, coffee time! and enjoy!, Everyday Letters is now available on the App Store for all iOS 10 users.

The 100 Day Project: The Halfway Mark https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2016/the-100-day-project-the-halfway-mark/ https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2016/the-100-day-project-the-halfway-mark/#comments Tue, 12 Jul 2016 03:06:37 +0000 http://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/?p=624 I am a self-confessed creative and an artist. I enjoy making and creating. But oftentimes I don’t get to touch my art supplies for days, sometimes even weeks. It’s always the excuse of being too busy, or getting caught in the whirlwind world of motherhood. There are always meals to cook, piles of laundry to do, a huge mess to clean up, or a class to drive the little girl to. Every day, there is always some reason not to make, and I wanted to change that.

In April, I finally joined #The100DayProject by Elle Luna on Instagram.

So, what is The 100-Day Project? Elle Luna explains it best:

It’s a celebration of process that encourages everyone to participate in 100 days of making. The great surrender is the process; showing up day after day is the goal. For the 100-Day Project, it’s not about fetishizing finished products—it’s about the process.

She further explains:

It is for anyone who is hungry to jump-start their creative practice, who is curious about being part of a community that celebrates process, and those who are busy with work and family commitments, but searching for a bite-sized way to play creatively.

She had me at “celebrating the process of creating.”

100-Days-01For my 100 Day Project, I decided on #100DaysOfArtByAnnings. This exercise is a challenge for myself to make and create every day. A chance for me to practice and refine my style. I know that “art” is a pretty broad subject on its own, but for my daily practice, I didn’t want to limit myself with one craft. I wanted to be able to freely choose my medium based on my current mood.

I’m at the halfway mark, and I’ve already used a variety of mediums and styles.

Here are 1-50 of my #100DaysOfArtByAnnings.

100-Days-02For my first piece, I worked on my brush lettering using watercolor.

100-Days-03I filled up my first week with more brush lettering, pointed pen calligraphy, watercolor painting and art journaling.

100-Days-04
On day 8, I worked on this Mother’s Day watercolor artwork and made a printable version, free for download. It’s still free over here.

100-Days-05100-Days-06
Through the first few days, I had to keep reminding myself not to overthink each piece. The whole purpose of the exercise is to enjoy the process. Creating art should never feel like a burden. It shouldn’t feel like a chore. Each artwork doesn’t have to be grand, or perfect. What matters is that I take the time to sit down to make.

100-Days-07
At the beginning of week 3, I was able to share my love for making when I taught my first bento food art workshop! To a group of five to nine year-old kids, I taught how to make these rice and sandwich creations. To make food art is one thing, but to be able to teach little kids how they themselves can create these tasty pieces of art was exhilarating.

100-Days-08100-Days-09100-Days-10Some more brush lettering, pointed pen calligraphy, art journaling, watercolor illustrations, acrylic on canvas, and bento food art.

100-Days-11100-Days-12100-Days-13
This challenge has allowed me to practice my hand lettering immensely. It has been an excellent excuse to work on my personal form and style.

100-Days-14
While I no longer make bento food art for my daughter daily, this challenge was the perfect excuse to make these little surprises for her school snack. I made this panda sandwich bento on her last day in Nursery, as a treat for officially finishing her first year of going to school!

100-Days-15Inspiration is everywhere. This quote in pointed pen calligraphy, was inspired by the launch of this coffee table about my Razón family, and being able to read seven generations of stories through words and photos.

100-Days-16
To finish off my first 50 days, I worked on some pointed pen calligraphy.

Halfway through the finish line, yay! To be honest, I’m actually a little behind, and even missed making art for a few days. I’ve decided not to fuss over it, allowing myself to work at my own pace, instead. The goal of the challenge is in fact about the process, anyway. So each day, I will work on relishing the process of making and creating.

If you want to see my 100-day progress, hop on over to my Instagram @annings, or browse through my hashtag #100DaysOfArtByAnnings. You may also read the last half of the series HERE.

New Beginnings https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2016/new-beginnings/ https://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/2016/new-beginnings/#comments Sat, 26 Mar 2016 03:15:38 +0000 http://www.acraftedlifestyle.com/?p=39 Don’t you just love new beginnings? Having a clean slate and starting fresh?

There’s just something about a blank page. Though fraught with uncertainty, the promise of all the possibilities, the opportunities and the hope of great things to come, are enough to give one the drive to dive head on.

Today, I am excited to finally kickoff this new beginning. This fresh start.

Hello! Welcome to A Crafted Lifestyle!

First and foremost, let me introduce myself. I am Anna Ignacio. Some of you may know me from my previous blogs, or maybe from my Instagram, as annings.

Sixteen years ago, I started blogging with the sole purpose of documenting my life. I wanted to write, using my blog as a digital record, so I could easily look back at memories I wanted to preserve. From a regular blogger, posting snippets of my life and my experiences on the daily, blogging quickly took a backseat when marriage and motherhood happened.

Raising a family and managing a home takes a whole lot of energy, attention and time, and balancing it all while trying to squeeze in some online journaling became a bit too much for me to handle. So I stopped, and for a while I concentrated on my family.

While stay-at-home mother and homemaker turned into my job titles, I made sure not to be defined by them. It was easy to get caught in the whirlwind of chores, cooking and never-ending to-do lists, but I didn’t want those titles to stop me from nurturing my love and passion for the arts. I immersed myself in calligraphy, hand lettering, painting, scrapbooking, different types of crafts, and even picked up the art of bento-making and food styling.

Intro-Art

Intro-PL

Marriage and motherhood hasn’t stopped me from making art. Art is my therapy, but it’s simply not just an escape from the busy life of managing a home. Art is what makes this journey more exciting and fun. It brightens our days and nourishes our home. All the touches of art and the crafty activities have helped me be a better wife and a more involved mother.

Being a homemaker has given me the drive to be more creative and to use the everyday to find ways to live A Crafted Lifestyle.

It is in this note that I took the plunge and finally started a blog again.

I am not new to blogging, but this time I wanted a fresh start. A clean slate. I want to go in a different direction with a new purpose.

Intro-Inspire

A Crafted Lifestyle will be my platform to inspire others to create and pursuethe life that they dream.

This blog will not like be my previous domains where memory keeping was my main purpose. Instead, I will use this as a tool to share how fun and easy it is to insert creativity into the everyday.

Through scrapbooking, calligraphy, photography, simple styling, DIYs, tutorials and all sorts of fun crafts, I will share tips on how to brighten up your homes and lives.

Join me as I embark on this new journey. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun, I promise!
